Nestled just minutes away from the vibrant city of Asheville, North Carolina, Lake Powhatan Campground offers a convenient gateway to a diverse range of cultural and natural attractions. This picturesque campground is not only close to the city’s art and music venues, dining, and shopping options but also provides easy access to the breathtaking beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway, a plethora of scenic hiking trails, and the serene lakeside for a multitude of recreational activities.

Among the more popular nearby destinations are Sliding Rock, Looking Glass Falls, the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, The NC Arboretum and the Biltmore Estate. Whether you’re in the mood for city exploration or seeking solace in the wilderness, Lake Powhatan Campground truly encompasses the best of both worlds, making it the perfect base for a memorable and well-rounded outdoor adventure.

  • The facility provides restrooms with hot showers and flush toilets, plus picnic tables, tent pads, and campfire rings with grills.
  • 12 glamping tents are available in the upper Hard Times Loop.
  • The swimming area is open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Memorial Day to Labor Day.
  • Dump station and potable water on site.
  • Campers can purchase ice and firewood on-site.
  • Generators may be used up to 4 hours per day between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Campsites are available throughout the year, with the exception of the Hard Times Loop, which is closed November 15 through spring 2026. Reservations are required from late March through mid-November. During the off-season (mid-November through late March), campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis for one-night stays only.

Reservations open on a 6-month rolling calendar, and availability is limited—especially on weekends and holidays. Weekday bookings are strongly recommended when possible.

  • Check-in time: 2:00 PM
  • Gatehouse hours: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM
  • All guests must check in at the gatehouse upon arrival.
